Selina Whichello- Lead Singer

Hi, my name is Selina. I first started singing when I was about 11 years old, when I was asked to sing at the Royal Albert Hall representing my school.  I performed a solo piece, and from then on, I was bitten by the bug to perform; either acting or singing, I really didn’t mind either.

I was brought up listening to Soul music and I truly embraced the sound of Motown. I loved to listen to the old-time greats, Diana Ross and the Supremes, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Marvin Gaye, Erma and Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight and many more.

I remember being taken to the London Palladium to watch a tribute evening of the Motown greats and I just found it an inspiring experience, the glitz, the glam!

Being born in the 80’s and growing up throughout the 90’s, I soon became familiar with the songs of my idol, Whitney Houston. I simply adored her and loved singing her songs. I would often sing them for the end of year shows at school.

After school I studied for a degree in Performing Arts where I was given many of the singing parts and I loved it.  I performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and toured in plays across France, it was a great experience.  I was soon asked to perform at prestigious award evenings and on the local radio and appeared at the Kent County Show Ground.

Eventually I wanted to do more with my singing and so once I finished my degree in performing arts, I joined the very successful Interceptors show band where I took the lead vocals. I was fortunate to tour parts of the UK and Europe.

I have many years experience working in various show bands. Being somewhat ambitious I decided I wanted to do my own thing, that’s when I co-founded “Sold on Soul”, which I have l a lot of passion for, and I just cant believe the talent that I am surrounded by in this band.
